Day 40: Wu-Tang Clan
Today we're on that '93 shit. This artist spotlight is more of a nine-artist spotlight:
The RZA
The GZA
Ghostface Killah
Masta Killa
Method Man
U-God
Raekwon
Inspectah Deck
Ol' Dirty Bastard
This week's list is a tribute to these rap pioneers. My list includes primarily their collective work, but it also draws from their first round of solo albums (with the exception of Ghostface, because I wanted the song I wanted and not a song from Ironman). Also, if it seems like there's a lot of Enter the 36 Chambers; that's because there is. Do not adjust your computer screen.

Day 37: Drinkin' Songs
It's St. Patrick's Day! It's a time for all of us to cut loose and join the ranks of the Irish, a people who couldn't escape the stigma of alcoholism if they drunkenly killed everyone else in the world with broken bottles, enabling them to be the only people left who could possibly remember that such a stigma ever existed, despite the fact that most of their brain cells have been killed in a similar microscopic bar fight within their brains by tiny alcohol cells holding proportionately small broken bottles; even with such limited brain capacity and the rest of the world dead, these ginger-haired, freckled bastards would carry the mark of generation upon generation of inescapable dependence on alcohol.
Which brings me to today's list. Drinking songs. Enjoy! (Note: This drinking song list does not include rap. That's sort of a different ballgame. Rappers don't write songs about drinking, they write songs about partying, for the most part.)
YouTube:
01. Flogging Molly - Drunken Lullabies
02. Old 97's - Melt Show
03. Big D & the Kids Table - Little Bitch
04. AC/DC - Thunderstruck
05. Guns N' Roses - Mr. Brownstone
06. Dropkick Murphys - The Dirty Glass
07. The Pogues - Sally MacLennane
08. Sublime - 40oz. to Freedom
09. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - You and Me and the Bottle Makes 3 Tonight (Baby)
10. Billy Joel - Piano Man
11. The Hold Steady - Massive Nights
12. Poison - Nothin' But A Good Time
13. Reel Big Fish - Beer
14. Gogol Bordello - Alcohol
15. Andrew W.K. - Party Hard
16. Catch 22 - Chasing the Moon

Day 36: Pre-1980s Punk
This week's genre tour was a little tough to define. I wanted to do a strictly Roots Punk list coming off the heels of The Clash list. But the genre definitions within the punk movement are shady at best. So I decided that I'd limit the list to songs released before 1980. This sort of narrows down what's fair game. On one hand there are Protopunk bands that set the ground rules for punk (The Stooges, The Modern Lovers, Velvet Underground), more straight-up Punk acts (Dead Boys, Ramones, Sex Pistols), alongside the first wave of Post-Punk bands like Gang of Four. Overall the list is just a collection of some of my favorite songs from this era. The attitude, message and relentlessness of the music encapsulated the movement. Enjoi Oi Oi!
YouTube:
01. The Velvet Underground - I'm Waiting for the Man
02. Patti Smith - Pumping (My Heart)
03. New York Dolls - Personality Crisis
04. The Modern Lovers - Roadrunner
05. Iggy & The Stooges - Search & Destroy
06. Ramones - Judy is a Punk
07. The Clash - Janie Jones
08. The Jam - The Modern World
09. The Damned - New Rose
10. Dead Boys - Sonic Reducer
11. Sex Pistols - God Save the Queen
12. Stiff Little Fingers - Suspect Device
13. Wire - Ex Lion Tamer
14. Buzzcocks - Orgasm Addict
15. Gang of Four - Ether
